Expression Web Forum

I have developed a website using Front Page, and have just ordered Expression Web. Can you suggest an appropriate learning tool (i.e. book, etc) that I should procure?  I have used FrontPage for Dummies as a tool when first learning how to use Front Page.

Are Front Page Extensions necessary when publishing from Expression Web to my web host?

 I know I'll have more questions, but will wait till I have installed Expression.

Microsoft Expression Web might help a little

The question is sort of difficult to answer, but I like to say no, you don't need the FPSE and don't want to rely on them any longer. There are a few little things left in Expression Web (like publishing) but use FTP

 My copy of Expression actually came with a DVD tutorial that is quite good for giving you an overview of how things are different. But it's not in depth and unfortunately the help pages aren't up to scratch to fill in the middle ground.

 I both own and have used Cheryl's book and it is an excellent resource. It is also the book she uses in teaching her Expression Web class at

If you have used any frontpage bots in your fp site you will need to change over to something else as you can't add to them but they will still work within ew. You can move back and forward between ew and fp with no problems (none that i've seen). If your using bots that require fpse then you will continue to need that. No bots that don't need fpse .. you don't need fpse enabled on the server.

 As well those two excellent books the ew help ... is helpful to some extent but it is not as good as the fp help by a long chalk. Asking questions on the forum and visiting ew resources also might help ... I've a bunch of Expression Web links that might prove helpful ... with webcasts and videos.

 I would also suggest obtaining my Free Setting up Expression Web Ebook to read and follow before starting with ew.. and if your going to use DWTs ( Dynamic Web Templates) I also have a Free EW DWT Ebook that might be of interest. Includes are the exception within Expression Web on the bot front .. they will be retained but in this version you have to use a workaround and they are now called Design Time Includes
